Selwyn Phillips – Invirt Reality

Selwyn Phillips is an Animation graduate from the University of the West of England. He undertook a three month internship with Invirt Reality, a year after graduating in 2013. Selwyn was then taken on full time at the software technology provider and has been with the company over two years.

Selwyn, 3D Modeller at Invirt Reality said,

"I saw the opportunity with Invirt Reality, advertised at my university and saw it was a great chance to secure a role in a field that I enjoy. It was a simple application process, I sent across my CV and portfolio. I was then invited for an interview and offered the role of 3D modeller. During my first three months the tasks were varied and challenging, I worked on a number of different projects. At the end of the three month internship, I was offered a full time role which I accepted. Since then I have been involved in a number of different projects including; 3D modelling, games design, 360 photography and video editing.  As Invirt are an SME, the team are relatively small, therefore I have had the chance to work on a variety of projects which may not have been the case at a large organisation."

He continued,

"An internship allows you to gain experience in the working world and allows you to show a company the value you can add. It was less financial risk for Invirt Reality to hire me as an intern for three months rather than a full time employee. And with part funding from Santander Universities, it made it even more affordable. I would recommend that students apply for an internship as it not only gives you an opportunity to gain experience, but allows you to get your foot in the door of a company, and in my case a chance to gain full time employment."
